Most of us dreams and we do come across question like "If only one day a genie appear to you, and three wishes given to you, what will you ask?" Some will choose beauty, popularity perhaps, financial free or even more wishes! We just tend to be so greedy at times, and wish everything we choose leads to fulfillment of life. But above all, I guess happiness would win, hands down. many people mistakenly think that the first three choice bring happiness, but for those of us who understand happiness in the biblical sense, we understand better in a different way. We know that true happiness often spoken of in the Scripture in terms of being "blessed," is the deep inner sense that everything in life is in order, under God's control. So how can we find this kind of happiness?
The psalmist tells us that true happiness is experienced as we commit ourselves to live by God's "law" or rules (Psalm 1:2). This may come to us as surprise to come, because unfortunately a lot of us view his rules as divine handcuffs or a heavenly straitjacket. It's as though every time something seems fun and enjoyable, God says, "You can't do that." Or even something seems difficult, God says, "That's what I want you to do."
The idea that God gave his law to oppress us is Satan's oldest lie. The earliest attack of Satan on the true happiness of adam and Eve advertised that lie is a tragically successful way (Genesis 3:1-6) To counteract this untruth, the law of the Lord originates from God. He cannot deny himself. He could not possibly give us a set of rules that would be damaging, wicked, unkind, imperfect or unrighteous.
I have never met anyone who would say that his or her life has been totally devastated because of following God's Word, But I've met a lot of people whose mixed-up, unhappy lives are the result of having scorned God's directives.
When I find God's law hard to obey, that is when I became rebellious at time, but I always remember that God's commands are the key to expression of his love. For the past number of months, I enjoyed life by neglecting his laws, satisfactions and self achievements as well as friends to be with instead of keeping the relationship with Him but I do come to realized again and again that life without Him is meaningless even when I am financial free. Anyone of us will come to an edge of life questioning what am I living for, but to know the truth that whatever we live for in life, all will turn into dust at the end of the day besides God's love.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of the sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:1-2
Happiness is living within the boundary of God's Word.
